What “digital invoicing” usually means
Instead of keeping invoices only on paper or in a spreadsheet, your sales invoices are created in software that stores each record, assigns a reference and can pass invoice data to a reporting channel where your business is required or chooses to use one.
The pieces to understand
- Invoice record: the seller, buyer, items, quantities, tax amounts and totals in a consistent format.
- Customer and product lists: reusable records so each invoice starts with correct details.
- Submission activity: where applicable, a clear history showing which invoices were prepared, sent or need attention.
- Reports: totals by period, customer or product that your accountant can review.
Two tracks, not one
Federal (FBR) and provincial service (PRA) reporting can be separate tracks with their own requirements. A good workspace keeps them organized separately so you can see each at a glance.
